Enfora Announces EDGE Module Platform that Supports Windows Mobile

Barcelona, Spain

Enfora, a provider of intelligent wireless networking solutions, today announced the Enabler(R) IIIE-BGA, a feature-rich GSM/GPRS/EDGE wireless module platform that supports the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 operating system. This distinctive platform, which is based on Texas Instruments' OMAPV1030 single-core-architecture applications processor, has been architected to enable faster development of application-specific devices for markets such as freight, point-of-sale, personal navigation and healthcare.

"The focus of this platform is to allow a wide range of mobile devices to be brought to market easily and quickly by Windows Mobile developers," said Andy Berryman, vice president of business development, Enfora. "By using this platform, OEMs and ODMs should be able to reduce both the development costs and engineering time it takes to create either high-volume or rapidly evolving designs."

The platform's 28 X 34 X 2.5 mm footprint enables Windows Mobile developers to create small form factor devices. It comes in a 224-pin BGA hardware package that is designed to be easily integrated and manufactured, and that supports a variety of interfaces to peripherals such as camera, Bluetooth, SD, and USB devices.

"Microsoft supports partners who build upon the Windows Mobile platform to create hardware and software that enables people to be productive on the go," said John O'Rourke, general manager, Mobile Communication Business at Microsoft Corp. "Enfora's ready-made Windows Mobile package will help accelerate developer timelines and expedite the delivery of application-specific devices to market."

"The growing acceptance of Windows Mobile, coupled with Enfora's wireless networking solution expertise and TI's industry-leading cellular solutions, makes the Enabler IIIE-BGA a compelling development solution for a variety of wireless devices," said Victor Epifani, general manager, GSM/GPRS/EDGE business at TI. "We continue to enjoy the collaboration we have with Enfora and the solutions they bring to our customers to enable both innovation and rapid time to market."

Enfora's Enabler series of intelligent modules is designed to support a variety of wireless applications, and includes modules in both BGA and multi-pin connector forms for ease of hardware integration. The Enabler series is part of Enfora's eWiDE(TM) suite of wireless networking solutions, and will be on display at Enfora's Mobile World Congress Booth 2.1D71, Hall 2, February 11 to 14.
