Chinese Snooker Sensation Ding Junhui Helps Raise over US$6 Million on BGC Charity Trading Day

London, United Kingdom

Chinese snooker star, Ding Junhui, yesterday joined top snooker players and other stars from film, sport, television and music at inter-dealer broker BGC's 3rd Annual Charity Day to help raise funds for a number of charities including The Paul Hunter Foundation, which he represented. In total, over US$6 million was raised for good causes on the day bringing the total raised over three years to US$15 million.

Ding, the number one ranked snooker player in China, assisted BGC brokers executing trades over the phone and was joined on the trading floor by other snooker personalities including, Ronnie "the Rocket" O'Sullivan, Steve Davis, Neil Robertson and Lyndsey Hunter, wife of the late Paul Hunter. Along with other guests they were treated to a special 'trick-shot' exhibition by six times World Champion Steve Davis with a little help from a number of children from selected charities including the Children Cancer Foundation in Singapore.

Ding was joined by Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson who also helped to complete trades with BGC brokers. Remarking on Manchester United's start to the season, Sir Alex said, "Well, I think we're slow to start, but that's not been unusual for us if you look at our history. Last year we got off the blocks straight away and won the League well. This year we've got a bit of ground to make up, but saying that we've got players coming back and I'm quite positive."

The BGC Charity Day is held every year on September 11th to commemorate those lost in the world trade centre tragedy. Brokers from BGC's 15 worldwide offices gave up their commissions on the day to raise money. Events in London took place at BGC's headquarters in Canary Wharf, the heart of London's financial district.
