London, United Kingdom
Chinese snooker star, Ding Junghai, has joined other top snooker players at inter-dealer broker BGC's 3rd Annual Charity Day to help raise funds for a number of charities including The Paul Hunter Foundation, which he represented.
Ding, the number one ranked snooker player in China, assisted BGC brokers executing trades over the phone and was joined on the trading floor by other snooker personalities including, Ronnie "the Rocket" O'Sullivan, Steve Davis, Neil Robertson and Lyndsey Hunter, wife of the late Paul Hunter. Along with other guests they were treated to a special 'trick-shot' exhibition by six times World Champion Steve Davis with a little help from a number of children from selected charities.
Ding was joined by Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson who also helped to complete trades with BGC brokers. Remarking on Manchester United's start to the season, Sir Alex said, "Well, I think we're slow to start, but that's not been unusual for us if you look at our history. Last year we got off the blocks straight away and won the League well. This year we've got a bit of ground to make up, but saying that we've got players coming back and I'm quite positive."
The BGC Charity Day, which is held every year on September 11th to commemorate those lost in the world trade centre tragedy, has raised a total of $9 million for good causes over the last two years from the donation of its trading revenues from the day.
Further celebrity guests from the worlds of sport, film, television and music attended the event at BGC's headquarters in Canary Wharf, London.
