Teridian Confirms Lead-Free/RoHS 6/6 Compliance Commitment, Receives Green Partner Recertification from Sony

Irvine, California, United States

Teridian Semiconductor simultaneously confirmed their lead-free/RoHS 6/6 compliance, and announced receipt of its Sony Green Partner recertification. Committed to protecting the global environment, natural resources, and human health, Teridian has effectively established an environmental management system and minimized all of the environmentally related substances in the process of product development and manufacturing. Ongoing recognition as an official Green Partner by an industry leader like Sony further validates these ongoing efforts. Teridian, initially certified in August 2006 with its 73S80XX Smart Card Reader product family, provides devices for conditional access in Sony's Bravia S and X Series LCD HDTV products.

"We are proud to be a valued supplier to Sony's Bravia series LCD HDTVs, offering the world's broadest selection of smart card reader products for conditional access applications," said Steve McClure, vice president of marketing for Teridian. "Our green initiatives, which span both our Sony certification and our own lead-free/RoHS compliant roadmap, are becoming increasingly important across our customer base."

Sony Green Partner Program

Sony designates suppliers that cooperate in the production of environmentally sensitive products as Green Partners. Sony established the Sony Green Partner Standards in July 2001 with the aim of encouraging suppliers to introduce Green Partner environmental management systems. In March 2002, Sony established a set of "Management regulations for environment-related substances to be controlled which are included in parts and materials." Environment-related substances to be immediately banned or reduced were identified, as well as their applications. Together with this action, items required of suppliers under the Sony Green Partner Standards were further clarified by introducing the "Green Partner Environmental Quality Approval Program." As of April 2003, Sony made a commitment to procure parts and materials for its products solely from suppliers that have qualified as Green Partners. Sony Green Partner suppliers are required to work continuously to maintain and upgrade their environmental management systems. Suppliers must renew their Green Partner approval every two years.

Lead-free/RoHS 6/6 Availability

Consistent with Teridian's green initiative, the company has made significant efforts to transition the majority of its product portfolios to lead-free, RoHS 6/6 compliant packaging. Lead-Free/RoHS compliant packages can be identified with the letter "F" on the last digit of the third line on the top marking of the package. By 2009, Teridian expects 90% of shipments to be RoHS 6/6 compliant.
