New Historical Fiction Suggests Parallels Between Ancient Rome and the United States

The Phoenix Circle, a historical novel by Boris Raymond, shows how struggles for power and greed can destroy any great civilization.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (PRWeb) March 3, 2007 -- Author Boris Raymond's historical drama, The Phoenix Circle is a stunning drama about the fall of the Roman Empire.

While barbarians are infiltrating Rome's porous frontiers and Attila the Hun is threatening invasion, struggles for wealth and power are creating a miasma of corruption, greed, and sexual license within the empire. A small group of military leaders, the Phoenix Circle, dedicates itself to the preservation of Rome's grandeur. While its members rely on their military skills, other Romans seek to restore the empire by emphasizing spirituality rather than power and unbridled materialism.

Author Raymond is a lifelong student of Roman history, and he has braced his story with stunning authenticity. His novel also draws fascinating parallels with today's culture. New York Times best-selling author Ellen Tanner Marsh has this to say about The Phoenix Circle:

"Many historical novels depict Rome, but only a very small number describe one of the fabled city's most complicated eras: its demise...In the fall of Rome, Raymond argues, there lies not sorrow but hope....This is a fine novel of an ancient time that is fit to stand next to the best among such historical novels. The plot is complex, the prose accomplished, and the moral is original and astute...Devotees of historical novels will find themselves richly rewarded for picking this one up."
