Capella University Faculty Member Named a Consulting Editor For APA Journal

John Gonsiorek, a core faculty member in the online university's School of Psychology, will be a consulting editor for Professional Psychology: Research and Practice.

Minneapolis (PRWeb) March 3, 2007 -- Capella University faculty member John Gonsiorek has been named a consulting editor to the APA journal Professional Psychology: Research and Practice. The appointment took effect in January and will extend for five years. Gonsiorek is a core faculty member in Capella University's Harold Abel School of Psychology. Capella is an accredited, fully online university with more than 17,900 students, nearly 85 percent of whom are pursuing master's or PhD degrees.

In his role as a consulting editor, Gonsiorek will review and make recommendations regarding submissions to the journal, particularly on topics related to his areas of expertise, including sexual orientation, forensic psychology, and diversity issues.

"It keeps you on your toes in your areas of expertise. It is one thing to read the literature, and it's another thing to read something that is cutting edge in your area and to figure out if it's good or bad and why it's good or bad. It is great for professional development, and it's a contribution to the profession as well," he says.

In related news, the APA has accepted a program developed by Gonsiorek to be offered at the upcoming national APA convention in August in San Francisco. The program is titled "Psychology's Responses to Anti-Religious, Religion-Derived and Religion-Based Discrimination."
