On March 21, 2007, Edison Inventors Association, Incorporated awarded the 2006 Sotenberg Grant to Jodi Carr. Longtime president, Dr. Gary Nelson, explains, "We are privileged to offer a limited number of $2,000 grants to qualified first time patentees on behalf of the late J. Sotenberg. Mr. Sotenberg recognized the financial hurdles imposed by the U.S. Patent System and wished to ease the burden for inventive Americans."
