When Donations Aren't Enough

InsureMe sets an unlikely corporate goal.

Denver, CO (PRWeb) March 27, 2007 -- InsureMe, an online insurance lead generator, recently challenged its employees to take corporate philanthropy a step further. The company made volunteering a quarterly goal for its employees.

Employees were challenged to give at least eight hours of their time to charity over a three-month period. If over 75 percent did so, the company would then distribute profit sharing to its 70-person workforce.

When asked what inspired the altruistic goal, InsureMe's founder and CEO waxed philosophic:

"It is human nature to want to hold on to as much as we can and build our own empires -- thinking that by materialism and consumerism we'll find the joy that we're looking for," said Tim McTavish. "In reality, it is when we serve that we find true happiness."

No strangers to giving of themselves, InsureMe employees fanned out across the Denver metro area, donating their time and effort to their favorite charities and non-profit organizations. Many employees didn't have to change their habits at all -- they just had to record the time they usually devote to charity.

As added incentive to participate, employees were given eight hours of paid time off for their service.

InsureMe's eight-person leadership team braved cold temperatures and donned nail aprons for a day of hard work with Habitat for Humanity.

The American Heart Association, Project Cure, the Colorado Humane Society and the Denver Children's Museum were some of the other beneficiaries of InsureMe's workforce.

While McTavish concedes that volunteering for charity is an unorthodox corporate goal, he believes it's perfectly in synch with his company's mission statement -- "doing the right thing."

"We're obviously focused on earning a profit, because that's what keeps us in the game," said McTavish. "But we're about so much more than that."
