Chicago, Illinois (PRWeb) March 23, 2007 -- "Val's Art Diary" nominated by the official YouTube Video Awards in the "Best Series" category. 2.5 million art lovers tune in to watch the tech savvy outsider artist work in her studio.

In November of 2006 Valentina was very close to giving up her dream of becoming a painter. Making a living as an artist is not an easy thing to do. Only 4 months later she has no problems selling every new painting she produces as thousands of people tune in every Sunday to see her new creation. This technology savvy artist decided to go around the traditional gallery system. Her paintings are viewed by more people than any gallery could ever attract, and she is fulfilling her dream of painting full time.

In November of 2006 Valentina started a video blog called "Val's Art Diary" that documents the process of making her paintings. The blog (or vlog) also includes her rants, reflections, and funny moments she often captures with her camera. The subjects of her episodes always relate to the subjects of the paintings she is working on. The resulting video is, in her own words, "the closest I could ever get to an ideal artist's statement". The video itself becomes an important addition that helps in understanding and appreciating each of her pieces.

Although it appears as if her medium of choice is mixed media on canvas, she managed to create a synergy of traditional painting, video blogging and WEB 2.0 social interaction that gives us a peek into what the art world might resemble in the future.

On Monday, March 19th, YouTube announced the nominees in the first annual YouTube Video Awards. 10 video shows have been nominated in the "Best Series" category. Among them is "Val's Art Diary" as well as the famous viral video hits of 2006 like "Lonelygirl15", "Will it Blend?" and "Chad Vader" series. Anybody can vote at youtube.com/ytawards and the winners will be announced on Friday, March 23rd.
