Pakistani residents will soon have more choice, thanks to the number portability contract between Telcordia (www.telcordia.com) and Pakistan MNP Database (Guarantee) Limited (PMD), the company set up by the mobile operators with the specific purpose of facilitating the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP). PMD will be using the Telcordia(R) Number Portability Clearinghouse solution as the centralized repository for number porting. The Telcordia solution will enable Pakistani residents to easily switch providers without the time and expense of changing phone numbers and offers service providers exciting, new opportunities to add customers and boost revenue. MNP has been implemented on March 23, 2007, the National Day of Pakistan.
"As the market leader in number portability, Telcordia offers a clear advantage not only in technology but also time-to-market, which is an important factor when dealing with regulatory timeframes," said Dr. Arshad Siddiqi, CEO, PMD. "We believe that Telcordia's centralized clearinghouse solution is the most reliable option for bringing number portability to Pakistan and for ensuring increased choice and flexibility for Pakistani residents."
Telcordia Number Portability Clearinghouse makes it easy for wireline and mobile service providers to comply with portability mandates thanks to its accurate and nearly effortless interconnection process, which enables numbers to be easily ported between service providers. The system automates ordering, provisioning, notification and administration and allows service providers to rely on the same set of rules for handling port requests, so number exchanges can occur quickly and accurately.
"Number portability is reshaping telecom on a global scale and the clearinghouse solution allows operators to be more responsive to customers while providing regulators with a powerful and flexible way to manage number portability," said Richard Jacowleff, President, Interconnection Solutions, Telcordia. "Telcordia's proven number portability clearinghouse and gateway solutions support fixed and mobile number portability services, and this contract is a solid example of our continued leadership in this growth market."
In addition to providing the Telcordia Number Portability Clearinghouse solution to PMD, three Pakistani mobile phone service providers have also selected Telcordia for their number portability needs. The trio have selected the Telcordia(R) Number Portability Gateway solution, which provides a single, operator-based control point for mobile and fixed-line operators to manage the complex interfaces, message processing and transaction data associated with number portability requirements. The Telcordia solution helps to reduce operator costs related to number portability by contributing to increased flowthrough of port requests and simplifying management of both internal and external systems interfaces while supporting operator growth across all subscriber segments and number types.
