Universal Press Syndicate pet-care columnist and “Good Morning America” resident veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker set up a database to accept reports of pets who have become sick or have been killed by the recalled pet foods. After 48 hours, reports from almost 600 pet-lovers suggest the official mortality numbers will end up far higher than initial government reports. On the PetConnection.com Web site, more than 241 pets have been reported as dead by their owners. Dr. Becker is available for media interviews.
