Entrepreneurial Mum Launches $2 Million Online Travel Photo Competition -- Million Places on Earth

Terri Crowther, a single working mother from the United Kingdom, has launched a global online travel photo competition. She is encouraging amateur travel photographers to find a million unique places on earth, while she shares two million dollars in prize money.

London, England (PRWeb) March 21, 2007 -- Announcing MillionPlacesonEarth.com (www.millionplacesonearth.com), an amateur travel photo competition that aims to showcase the most unique places on earth. What's more, entrants have a chance to share in over $2 million in prizes.

The competitions' originator, Terri Crowther, 41, is South African born and now lives in Cheshire, England, with her 10-year-old twins. She sees the competition as a way to both help travellers display images of their favourite spots on the globe as well as a way for her to reclaim her life from the march of time.

"I was devastated when I turned 40 and felt I had to do something with my life now, else I was never going to do anything at all," Crowther said. She met a group of Internet entrepreneurs last year and was inspired to put MillionPlacesonEarth.com in motion. "I thought, if these 20 something year olds can do it, then so can I."

The competition is open to amateur photographers worldwide who can enter by uploading their travel photos to the website. Photos can be of both famous and not so famous landmarks, but all should have identifiable and recognizable features. Examples include buildings, bridges, statues, mountains, waterfalls and beaches. The main aim of the competition is to find millions of unique places on earth and the second aim is to help the entrants make money from their photos.

"I believe MillionPlacesonEarth.com will attract a global audience of travellers, tourists, backpackers and adventurers who are passionate about both photography and geography," said Crowther. "We want to give something back to the photographers, so if their photos get used by the business in the future, they will be paid a royalty fee based on a percentage of the value of the photo."

Viewers are invited to vote for their favourite images online. Online votes will be collated and the image that receives the most votes each month will be named Photo of the Month and earn a spot in the Grand Final. In the Grand Final, there are two $1 million prizes - one for the photographer who shoots the winning photo and the second million dollar prize for the affiliate who recommends the winner to the site. There are also monthly prizes for Photos of the Month.

There is a small entry fee of £1 per photo. Credits can be purchased on the website in multiples of 1, 10, 20, 50 and 100, and volume discounts are available.

The competition will initially run for three years. Crowther will then review the site and determine an exact closing date. MillionPlacesonEarth.com has been running for just over two months and in that time has attracted hundreds of registered users.
