San Francisco Residents Come To The Aid Of National Park Service

March Forth - The first annual Ocean Beach cleanup & dance party fund raiser this weekend to help out understaffed Park Service and keep San Francisco's Ocean Beach available for everyone.

San Francisco, CA (PRWeb) March 2, 2007 -- "It's a fact, the local Park Service office has more on their plate than they can handle," states Ocean Beach Foundation President Tom Wrobel, "If San Francisco residents don't step up, we could lose many of the ways we enjoy Ocean Beach in the very near future."

Members of the Ocean Beach Foundation, The Surfrider Foundation, and Burners Without Borders have been working together with the National Park Service to find a solution to such problems as bonfires, beach litter, and educating residents on sustainable use of Ocean Beach.

This Sunday, March 4 they are hosting 'March Forth' A beach cleanup & fund raising benefit from 2pm to 7pm that will feature local San Francisco DJ's Alxndr (Downlow), DJ Goyo (Uptempo Productions), and Donna Matrix (rEvolution, Panda Rejects), plus a bonfire to keep you toasty as the sun goes down.

"We're raising awareness about a sustainable Ocean Beach and having some fun in the process," according to organizer Scott Swanson. "The problem we face now is Irresponsible burning and littering leave Ocean Beach covered in litter, and the Park Service just doesn't have the resources to constantly spend time cleaning the beach. So we're going to pitch and and do our part."

While all three sponsoring organizations will have members helping with the cleanup, the public is not only invited, but encouraged to participate. There will be gloves and garbage bags provided, so all you need to do is show up at 2PM Sunday at Stairway 20. There will be a table staffed with volunteers help you get set up. You'll need to bring your own food, drink, and of course warm clothing for when the sun goes down.

The Ocean Beach Foundation will be taking donations to help build fire rings at the beach as part of the responsible burning plan drafted by the Parks Service and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Management.
