Grandparents Produce A Multimedia Children's Story That Is Ideal For Home Schooling.

A new adventure story is available on the Internet that should be of special interest to those who home school children of 6-9 years. "Eloise, the Witch and the Wordsmith" is a multimedia presentation of 2 hours that includes narration as its mode of communication, supported by illustrations and music. The story presentation is very attractive and offers many extra options including those of an educational nature. As such it is ideal for the home educator. The story is fun and it makes learning easy.

ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA (PRWeb) March 10, 2007 -- "Eloise, the Witch and the Wordsmith" is a story with a difference. It fits the classic mould of children's literature. "Eloise" has a most exciting adventure with many surprises that is told in imaginative English. Illustrations support the tale at a leisurely pace. There is no hype and the child is invited to engage with language and given space to internalize what is happening at least to some degree.

The Kid-Ebook website (http://www.kid-ebook-stories.com) that carries the Story, is solely dedicated to presenting the "Eloise" adventure and its many possibilities. Navigating the site is a breeze with an invitation to browse through the many aspects of the presentation. In addition to the narration it includes color posters for printing and coloring-in templates. It can be read as an e-book or printed out. Each of the 15 chapters has an English Word-sheet introducing children to the one hundred words in the story they may be less familiar with. For each chapter there are discussion starters as well. Those that deal with general life issues faced by children and, for those interested, discussion starters on Christian RE. As a fantasy story "Eloise, the Witch and the Wordsmith," though not at all written with this in mind, lends itself to that kind of interpretation. The website further includes a number of reflections on the importance of story in child development, the connection between fantasy and child spirituality and the use of story as a teaching aid.

Learning means internalizing to the level of competence and character formation. Both the exposure to the riches of the English language and the experience of an up-beat but gentle rhythm when listening to a story has been lost in modern days due to animation and film. The ancient art of story telling has been devalued to the detriment of children. Any exposure to words is mostly limited to simple phrases while the variety of words generally used with children leaves much to be desired. It is not true that children cannot handle the more imaginative words that are needed to describe a scene or an emotion. It's just that with the way in which stories are presented in film and animation, there is no need for it. As a consequence the vocabulary of children remains limited while it is words that are used in human thinking. It follows that the cognitive ability of children also suffers and their potential for the future. This can be discussed further in depth and the reflections found on the website do exactly that.

"Eloise, the Witch and the Wordsmith" is available from the Internet as a download or on CD. It runs on a computer which makes it ideal for home schooling. It offers a creative way in which to facilitate English Learning and also discussion. Usually stories are not discussed with children and therefore valuable learning opportunities are being lost. The multimedia package has a price for private use and also for schools. Home schooling is considered to be private use which makes the overall cost a very attractive proposition. Learning is a constant gathering of knowledge, ideas and skills. Sometimes a product like "Eloise, the Witch and the Wordsmith" comes along that just fits the bill.
