Harvard Computing Group Delivers Data-driven Process Mapping

TaskMap Professional is part of the Microsoft® Office Visio® 2007 IT Pro Toolbox.

Devens, MA (PRWEB) July 9, 2007 -- Harvard Computing Group is pleased to announce the availability of its TaskMap® Professional process mapping solution on the Microsoft Office Visio® 2007 IT Pro Toolbox.

“We created the IT Pro Toolbox to highlight the significant new capabilities of Visio 2007 Professional for a very important group of Visio customers –- IT Professionals,” said Richard Smith, Senior Product Manager, Visio Partner Program at Microsoft. “IT Professionals have long been the backbone of the Visio user community and this new web resource is designed to highlight Visio solutions that showcase the unique new features of Visio 2007 Professional.

“We are very pleased,” Smith continued, “to include TaskMap Professional in our initial rollout of the IT Pro Toolbox. We selected TaskMap Professional based on the value users are able to derive from its use of Visio 2007's new data-to-diagram connectivity capabilities. The team at Harvard Computing Group has incorporated Visio Data Graphics and Data Linking in creative ways that truly extend the power of Visio.”
Since 2004, TaskMap has replaced flowcharts as the preferred means to document work processes in hundreds of organizations. According to Nelson Osborn, Director of IT Corporate Initiatives at Sanmina-SCI, “We asked project team members and associated business managers which they preferred –- flowcharts or TaskMaps. The unanimous response? TaskMaps.”

TaskMap Professional supercharges the existing TaskMap product by adding sophisticated data visualization capabilities and the ability to create dynamic links between TaskMaps and data in spreadsheets, databases and SharePoint lists.

“With the power of Visio 2007 Professional behind it, TaskMap Professional allows me to create dynamic process maps that are linked to external data sources such as the TaskMap Capture for Excel worksheet.” said Peter Luedtke, Director of Professional Services, PM Insights, Inc. “If I change the data in the worksheet, the graphics in the map are automatically updated to reflect the change in status. TaskMap Professional is way ahead of the market.”

TaskMap Professional includes TaskMap Capture for Excel -- a pre-formatted spreadsheet that pulls key data from a TaskMap, thereby creating a simple input worksheet for either creating new TaskMaps or updating existing maps. TaskMap Capture for Excel moves data capture into the hands of process owners and process participants. They don't need to know anything about creating a process map; they merely supply the data requested in the TaskMap Capture worksheet and it flows automatically to the appropriate TaskMap.

“We are excited that Harvard Computing Group has extended their Visio solution to incorporate Excel input and that they will soon add Microsoft Word output. It demonstrates their understanding of the integration possibilities inherent in the Microsoft Office System,” Smith remarked.

The Visio IT Pro Toolbox is located at www.visiotoolbox.com. Trial versions of all featured products, including TaskMap Professional, are available following free registration.
