NextWave Wireless Inc. (NASDAQ: WAVE), a global provider of mobile broadband products and technologies to enable Wireless 2.0, the next generation of mobile communications, today announced the launch of its Latin American business operation, NextWave Wireless - Latin America. The new business unit will deliver NextWave's broad array of industry-leading mobile broadband and wireless technology solutions to customers throughout the Latin American region. Rafael Steinhauser has been named president of the unit, which is headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Mr. Steinhauser joins NextWave Wireless with over 22 years of experience in telecommunications, half in the Latin American region. From 1994 to 1999, he served as the head of Qualcomm South America and in 1999 was appointed executive vice president at Vesper South America, a Brazilian telecommunications carrier. Mr. Steinhauser assumed the presidency of Nortel Networks Brazil in 2000, and subsequently served as president of Cisco's Brazilian division before joining NextWave Wireless. He holds a Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Technische Universitat Berlin.
