CardioVascular BioTherapeutics, Inc. (OTCBB:CVBT) has announced that co-founder and Co-President, Prof. Dr. Thomas J. Stegmann, M.D., has received the prestigious international honor of being elected as full member of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences.
In the presence of Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Tabachnyk, Dr. Stegmann unanimously was elected by all 98 distinguished members of the Academy during an event hosted by Prof Dr. Aleksandr Vozianov, President of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences. Membership into the Academy is a lifetime appointment, and only a few foreign scientists have received the honor of being elected as full member. The Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences was founded in 1918, and today represents all major medical and scientific institutions in Ukraine. It is the most elite health care council in Ukraine and the Academy's budget is financed by the federal government.
At the July 4th event in Kiev, Dr. Stegmann presented his recent scientific contributions in a talk entitled "Angiogenesis - A New Principle of Treatment for Cardiovascular Diseases."
"I am greatly honored, and deeply touched by this extraordinary recognition presented to me by my Ukrainian friends," Dr. Stegmann stated. "This honor and appointment is also the result of many other individuals who have worked with me and served as my colleagues through the years, including German heart surgeons, American scientists from Nevada and California, and visionary business leaders who are now working with me to make angiogenesis therapy a medical reality."
Dr. Stegmann was the first surgeon to successfully accomplish angiogenesis therapy in the human heart. In a series of ground-breaking European clinical trials in the 1990s, Dr. Stegmann showed the potential of protein-based growth factor therapy to grow new blood vessels in the heart, and to give patients with advanced coronary artery disease a lasting clinical benefit. This work led to the establishment of CardioVascular BioTherapeutics, Inc. to commercialize this discovery.
"I take this honor as a representative for CardioVascular BioTherapeutics, Inc and know this recognition is an incentive for further research and clinical development of protein-based angiogenic therapy for patients suffering from all forms of atherosclerotic diseases," he added.
