Canadian Small Business Owners Attracted to Prosperity Principles

From the Law of Attraction to Napoleon Hill's Master Mind, more and more small business owners are finding themselves fascinated with the metaphysical.

Toronto, ON (PRWeb) January 26, 2007 -- Canadian Entrepreneurs are embracing the mysteries of the mind in their pursuit of success.

Don't get the wrong idea though - it's not simply a new age fad. Coaches have taught top athletes the power of visualization for years - that is picturing what you want to achieve first and then making it a reality. The difference is that the Internet now makes it easier than ever to find like-minded individuals.

The Basics
Most entrepreneurs discover the Law of Attraction first. There are many coaches who teach this principle and various networking communities like Ryze and Meetup have groups focusing on it. If you're in small business, someone will mention it sooner or later.

The Law of Attraction states that we are constantly creating our own life as we live it, whether we realize it or not - and whether we want it or not. When you let yourself focus on what you really desire, you are helping it to manifest in your future. It also implies that if when you read this you think, "This sure won't work!" you are placing an obstacle between yourself and the realization of your desire.

The international success of a video called The Secret through viral marketing proves its popularity. The video is being bought, downloaded, and sent to colleagues and friends all around the globe. It consists of a series of interviews with successful personalities including Jack Canfield (creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series), John Gray (author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus), and Joe Vitale (author of Hypnotic Writing) who provide their take on how effective the Law of Attraction is, and how powerful the mind is in creating your success.

Another key concept is the Creative Intelligence Alliance. This is about amplifying the power of your mind by bringing it together with others. Entrepreneurs are often introduced to this approach through their networking communities.

Creative Intelligence
Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.org) describes Creative Intelligence as "the ability to successfully deal with new and unusual situations by drawing on existing knowledge and skills." A Creative Intelligence Alliance is a group of two or more people who pool their mental resources (skills, experience, insights, etc.) to come up with solutions and innovations to common issues.

Napoleon Hill was the first to describe the approach in Think and Grow Rich (1937). Hill was exploring what made the wealthiest people of his age successful, so he spent some time with them. He observed that they often met to discuss ideas and solve problems, and that the ideas generated by the whole (those involved) exceeded the sum of the individuals. Hill called this phenomenon the "Master Mind."

Over the years, other forms of Creative Intelligence Alliance have evolved. They now have many names and formats including: success groups, brain trusts, think tanks, referral networks, and accountability partnerships.

Who uses these prosperity principles?
Despite their increasing popularity, some might wonder if these practices are only for the spiritual and for believers in a greater power.

Gisela McKay, the creator of www.BusinessPartnerships.ca, a site where entrepreneurs meet others interested in forming Creative Intelligence Alliances, frowns slightly at this suggestion. McKay says she firmly believes there are practical reasons why the practices work, and they include the power of accountability and the influence of simply declaring your intentions aloud.

"My own mastermind group meets once a week," says McKay. "We discuss our challenges and coups, we brainstorm ways to meet those challenges, set goals for the week, and report on how we have done with the past week's goals. We've been doing it for two and a half years and we are incredibly comfortable with each other."

McKay adds that the key to running an effective Creative Intelligence Alliance is structure. Agreeing to the purpose of the group up front, and deciding on how often to meet and the group format has to be done up-front, within the first couple of meetings.

"Not every group format is suitable to a particular personality, so it should be expected that some people will leave to find something that works better for them," she says.

Some groups meet via the phone or the Internet and never get together in person. Other groups meet for a fixed period of time to solve a particular problem, and then go their separate ways. McKay says she believes any group format is fine as long as it works for the individuals involved.

"You have to find the right mix to get the most out of the experience," she remarks.

Mixing business with spirituality may seem like a stretch to some. But, as McKay points out, if these practices help people to clear their heads and focus on their goals, they may well become enduring aspects of business practice. Live long and prosper!
