(PRWeb) January 24, 2007 -- Lifelinks Video Relay Services, the most innovative, service-oriented VRS provider to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, now offers, together with Verizon's special low telephone rate for international calls, free termination of international long distance calls to any country, including Cuba, China, Europe, India, South and Central America including Mexico, Russia, the countries of the former Soviet Union, Africa, the Middle East, etc., if originated by a deaf caller using ASL(American Sign Language) within the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Helmi Gomez, customer service manager for Lifelinks VRS states, "Never before has a VRS company provided termination of calls to any country, served by Verizon, as Lifelinks VRS is now doing."

This is thanks to a special low calling rate provided by Verizon to Lifelinks VRS. Video Relay is a service administered by the National Exchange Carrier's Association (NECA) and funded by the FCC. Its goals are to provided equal access for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to telephone services.

Other services funded by the FCC are TTY and IP-Relay.VRS has the advantage of rapid conversational interaction between the one who calls and the person who answers, approaching that of a call between two hearing individuals. A deaf person may call a hearing person, e.g. a physician's office, or vice versa. Most calls are from a deaf person to a hearing person within the U.S. However, with increasing cultural diversity, there is now a significant demand by deaf people to call their family members in their country of origin. Lifelinks VRS now fulfills this need.

Deaf people may access Lifelinks VRS using either a videophone by dialing the IP address: 69.18.207.166 or by calling 347-632-0430. Hearing people may call 866-SIGNLANGUAGE and ask for the deaf person by IP address. The service is available 24/7. American Sign language Interpreting(ASL) is available into Spanish as well.
