BTI Grows Leadership Team to Accelerate Business Expansion

BTI Photonic Systems Inc. announces new members to leadership team. The appointment of Jonathan Boocock as Vice President of Engineering and Mike Dagenais, CEO of Continuous Computing, as an independent board member to its Board of Directors. The strategic appointments will support BTI's growth as it continues to deliver best-in-class solutions to the rapidly expanding Metro Edge market.

Ottawa, Canada (PRWeb) January 24, 2007 -- BTI Photonic Systems Inc., a global supplier of microWDM networking solutions for the delivery of gigabit services, today announced the appointment of Jonathan Boocock as Vice President of Engineering. BTI has also added Mike Dagenais, CEO of Continuous Computing, as an independent board member to its Board of Directors. The strategic appointments will support BTI's growth as it continues to deliver best-in-class solutions to the rapidly expanding Metro Edge market.

Video applications, wireless backhaul and adoption of Ethernet are driving the need for increased bandwidth at the network's edge. With more than 1,000 systems deployed and with greater than five million service hours in carrier networks across 60 customers, BTI is focused on scaling out the company's footprint and accelerating the business to meet rapidly increasing demand.

"The exponential growth in demand for new broadband services is putting intense pressure on service providers to deliver 10 to 100 times the capacity at the edge of their networks while maintaining the ability to generate a profit on this growth," said Lance Laking, President and CEO of BTI Photonic Systems. "The addition of Jonathan and Mike to the team, combined with BTI's track record of delivering profitable capacity growth with microWDM solutions, positions us to lead the delivery of Gigabit-services and capacity at the Edge."

As co-founder of Ottawa-based Catena Networks, Jonathan Boocock led product development and delivery, which resulted in the successful sale of the Catena to Ciena for $487-million. He previously worked at Cadence and Nortel in design and delivery of carrier grade systems for service providers. Jonathan will be responsible for leading BTI's world class development team and driving continued innovation meeting the demands of customers adopting microWDM platforms.

In addition BTI is strengthening its Board of Directors with the appointment of Mike Dagenais as an independent board member. Mike brings with him more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, most recently as CEO of Optical Solutions, which Mike led to a successful acquisition by Calix Networks in February 2006. Mike also has extensive executive experience at companies including Nortel, Lucent and Convergent Networks.

BTI's microWDM optical networking technology makes it possible to build easy-to-manage, scalable, future-proof and protocol-independent converged networks that combine multiple streams of information -- both new and existing traffic -- for transmission across a single physical fiber connection in regional or metro networks. With microWDM, every fiber can be optimized to support up to 320 Gbps. The BTI microWDM solution also gives service providers the flexibility to upgrade existing fiber to deliver Ethernet and wavelength services.
