Imani Hakim: From Rags to "Reign Over Me"

Young co-star of "Everybody Hates Chris" soars to the big screen with her role in Adam Sandler's new feature film project, "Reign Over Me."

(PRWeb) January 18, 2007 -- Since 2004, young Imani Hakim has been working hard on her craft: auditioning, studying and finally landing a co-starring role on CW's "Everybody Hates Chris". Her television debut and hard work ultimately led to Imani winning the character of Jocelyn Johnson, daughter of Jada Pinkett Smith and Don Cheadle's characters in the feature film "Reign Over Me".

But Imani's fame came with a price.

Imani and her father ventured to Los Angeles over two years ago to support Imani's dream to be an actress. After a slew of failed attempts at finding representation, the family had to make a decision: keep knocking on Hollywood's door or head back to Ohio. The Hakim's had run out of money which resulted in living out of their van until Imani could find a break in the biz. Within the next couple of months, a miracle changed everything for the young actress; the family's perseverance paid off when Imani was cast on the hit CW television show, "Everybody Hates Chris", produced by Chris Rock.

"I owe my success to my two families," said Imani Hakim. "If my father hadn't been willing to make sacrifices for me, I would have never won the role on Everybody Hates Chris. I like working with my television family, too. We have a lot of love for each other."

Imani, and her father moved out of their van and into a modest home in Los Angeles at which time they sent for Imani's two brothers in Ohio. In 2006 the little starlet soared to the big screen when she landed a role in Adam Sandler's latest feature film, Reign Over Me directed by Mike Bender. Reign Over Me is about a man (Sandler) who has lost his family in the September 11th attack on New York City and runs into his old college roommate (Cheadle). Rekindling the friendship is the one thing that is able to help the man cope with his grief.

Reign Over Me stars Adam Sandler, Jada Pinkett Smith, Don Cheadle, Liv Tyler, Cecily Tyson and our rags to Reign starlet, Imani Hakim. The film is set to be released in March, 2007. Everybody Hates Chris airs on CW Monday nights at 8:00pm.
