Artist's New Work Questions Celebrity Obsession

Artist JohnMichael's recent work focuses on celebrity obsession.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWeb) January 12, 2007 -- Award-winning, abstract artist JohnMichael has recently completed a work of art that carries a message about celebrity obsession.

The painting is titled 'The Planes of Jasper' and may remind some of a Jasper Johns' painting.

However, Jasper's painting called artistic attention to common objects such as a coffee cup, while JohnMichael's painting calls attention to objects of obsession (although very common as well). The celebrity worship cycle is a major focus.

JohnMichael takes the message even deeper. 'The Planes of Jasper' is a complicated, tri-canvas painting with one canvas on hinges which opens to reveal hidden obsessions and a mirror. The painting's subtitle asks, "Do U C U ?" In other words, do you see yourself (in the mirror) having the same obsessions?

Several artists have recently focused work on celebrity obsession and JohnMichael's work stands out because of his unique style and his use of artistic objects.

His painting may be viewed online at this address : http://www.artneversleeps.com/abs11.php

JohnMichael is an emerging artist who has collectors and admirers of his work in the USA, Canada, and Europe. In a little over 1 1/2 years, He has sold over 50 paintings and his work in general has received excellent reviews from collectors, enthusiasts, and several galleries.

JohnMichael studied art and architecture in college. He has also studied the New York School (ie., Abstract Expression). He admires the work of Franz Kline, Jasper Johns, and Larry Rivers among others. He has also studied the work of artists from the Far East. As a result, you may see elements of abstract expressionism, minimalism, the Orient, calligraphy, and architecture in his provocative abstract paintings.

His new work is considered a little bit Abstract Expression and a little bit Pop Art, as he is dedicated to pushing the envelop of canvas-based art.

JohnMichael is listed in the 2005 Contemporary Artists Directory for Arizona. He is a member of the Arizona Artists Guild.
