Website Lists Best Places to Live for Autism Support and Services

AutismKey.com lists its choices of the top five states in the country for the best autism-related services for children and adults.

(PRWeb) February 20, 2007 -- According to study results released earlier this month by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, autism now affects one in every 150 children in the United States. Now more than ever, parents of children with autism spectrum disorders are seeking the best support and solutions for their loved ones.


As a result, Autism Key has released a list of what it considers to be the best states in the country for autism support and related educational services.

"I commend the politicians, educators and organizations in the states on our list," said Gary Greaves, owner and operator of AutismKey.com.

"I think they've set the standard for the rest of the country," he added.

Greaves, who is the father of an autistic child himself, was recently considering an out-of-state move and sought to find areas of the country with above-average services, which led to his findings. He cites extensive research, conversations with other parents and recent legislative efforts by politicians as influencing factors for his picks.

"Quite honestly, there are a lot of other states that could have made this list. However, in my opinion, I think the choices accurately reflect the leading states in the country as it pertains to autism awareness, services and treatment options," stated Greaves.

The chosen states are as follows, from top to bottom.

1. Wisconsin
2. California
3. New Jersey
4. Ohio
5. Missouri

Greaves noted that the recently signed Combating Autism Act of 2006 should help facilitate a broader range of services from both federal and state agencies.

"It's my hope that lists like these won't be necessary in the future. We should strive to have adequate and equal services for everyone, regardless of where they live," concluded Greaves.

Launched in 2006, Autism Key is a support site for parents of children with autism and autism spectrum disorders. The site includes news updates, videos, autism message boards and a local support database.
