Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris Files Lawsuit against Pharmaceutical Giant Bayer AG

Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris, P.C., announced that it has filed a complaint against Bayer Corporation and its parent company, Bayer AG on behalf of plaintiff Ada M. Williams. Ms. Williams allegedly suffered permanent kidney damage after being given Trasylol®---a Bayer-manufactured drug given to patients during open-heart surgery to prevent the potential for excessive bleeding as a result of the surgery. The suit was filed Jan. 25, 2007, in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, Columbia Division (Case 1:07-cv-00004). Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris is one of the first law firms in the nation to bring suit against Bayer Corporation regarding Trasylol.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (PRWeb) February 20, 2007 -- Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris, P.C. (www.cwcd.com), announced that it has filed a complaint against Bayer Corporation and its parent company, Bayer AG on behalf of plaintiff Ada M. Williams. Ms. Williams allegedly suffered permanent kidney damage after being given Trasylol®---a Bayer-manufactured drug given to patients during open-heart surgery to prevent the potential for excessive bleeding as a result of the surgery.

The lawsuit states that, as a result of being given Trasylol during open-heart surgery, Ms. Williams went into kidney failure and is now required to undergo kidney dialysis three days a week for the rest of her life. In the suit, Ms. Williams asks that a jury fairly compensate her for the pain and suffering her injury has created and for reimbursement of the added medical expenses she continues to incur.

"Ms. Williams is being forced to live the rest of her life with severe and life-threatening kidney problems," says Craig P. Niedenthal, shareholder at Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris. Mr. Niedenthal and the law firm of Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris are currently reviewing additional potential Trayslol claims.

Earlier this month, the results of an observational study looking at the long-term effects to patients given Trayslol during open-heart surgery was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The doctors who published the study concluded that Trayslol use during open-heart surgery is associated with an increased risk of death during the first five years after the surgery. The article also estimated that if other, cheaper medications were used instead of Trayslol, approximately 2,000 deaths per year might be avoided.

Additionally, a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine in January 2006 revealed that Trasylol doubled the risk of kidney failure in patients given Trasylol during open-heart surgery. In contrast, the study noted two generic drugs that cost significantly less than Trasylol and perform the same function during the surgery produced no increased risk of kidney failure.
