NetroMedia and Sail TV Announce Partnership to Broadcast the America's Cup via Broadband Internet Streaming

NetroMedia streams America's Cup for Sail.tv, working as an AmericasCupAnywhere by Alcatel-Lucent licensee.

Victoria, BC Canada (PRWEB) April 24, 2007 -- Sail TV Managing Director Andrew Steward and NetroMedia CEO Che Pinkerton are pleased to announce that the two organizations will be streaming via broadband distribution the 32nd America's Cup from Valencia, Spain working as an AmericasCupAnywhere by Alcatel-Lucent licensee.

"NetroMedia is proud to have been chosen to power Sail.tv's America's Cup programming through our global Internet broadcast network," said Mr. Pinkerton. "We have invested significant resources into the research and development of broadband streaming that would meet the demands of clients in the entertainment, advertising, e-commerce and broadcast markets. The America's Cup project required an exceptionally creative team that was capable of implementing scalable, reliable and secure broadcast platforms that could drive global distribution."

Sail.tv, the world's premier sailing channel, will be broadcasting over the Internet online coverage of the 32nd America's Cup in Valencia through a deal with Alcatel-Lucent, the Official New Media provider for the event.

Coverage of the event will be available at www.sail.tv on a 24/7 basis starting with the Louis Vuitton Act 13 on April 3rd and continuing right through to the final race of the America's Cup. Sail TV plans to feature short daily video news release updates and will be showing delayed, embargoed broadcasts of the official TV highlights shows, plus live images from around the venue, together with specially produced content that will be exclusive to the channel. All of this will be available as video-on-demand and scheduled Internet programming.

Sail TV Managing Director Andrew Steward said, "We're delighted to be broadcasting the 32nd America's Cup on Sail TV, as it shows the tremendous progress the channel has made in the past year. Generally we offer live programming, video-on-demand, and of course a normal TV schedule for our ever growing viewer ship. This arrangement for the 32nd America's Cup coverage, strengthens and reinforces our reputation and position within the sport, as the essential 'go to' TV channel for sailing internationally and we're very much looking forward to bringing our viewers the most prestigious sailing event in the sport over the coming months."

Due to pre-existing commercial TV arrangements, Sail TV will not be allowing broadcasts into Canada, New Zealand or Italy, which will be geo-blocked to viewers from these countries. The remaining global distribution will be marketed and branded through the various America's Cup affiliate commercial partners.

"Brand differentiation is a key component of streaming media and we believe that this partnership with the America's Cup will enhance the capacity of Sail.tv to deliver targeted brand value for this sports entertainment property," said Jim Piper, Director of Global Business Marketing at NetroMedia. "Interactive broadband marketing supports the entire project life-cycle and ensures that all campaigns are innovative, compelling and profitable. The early adoption of streaming media distribution by niche-broadcasters such as Sail TV will enhance and define their market share as they move forward to create innovative revenue models."
