Painted Cabinets and Vanities are the Trend in Home Remodel in 2007, Says the American Homeowners Association (AHA)

The new decorating trend for 2007 is clean and bright. Kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities are no exceptions.

Stamford, CT (PRWeb) April 2, 2007 -- The new decorating trend for 2007 is clean and bright. Kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities are no exceptions.

"Painted vanities and cabinets can give tired spaces new vitality," says Richard Roll, founder and president of the American Homeowners Association (AHA).

"However, many people do not know how to care for these newly painted surfaces once installed in their homes," he says.

Here are three recommendations from AHA to help homeowners who want their homes to stay sparkling and fresh:

-Prevent the finish from wearing prematurely

• Make sure the area is well ventilated. Hot, humid air will cause paint to buckle and warp.
• Keep water from settling on or dripping down cabinet faces.

-Prevent the drawer slide brackets from loosening and falling

• Don't overload a drawer's capacity. Cans, heavy plates and dishes belong on shelves.
• Don't slam drawers. Open and shut them with smooth and fluid movements.

-Keep the cabinets and cabinet doors flush and in alignment

• Door misalignment can happen when the framework warps or dries out. This is normal and must be compensated for with regular hinge tightening.
• Keep door hinges lubricated with a squirt of light lubricant once every two years.

"With proper maintenance, the decorating craze of 2007 will continue to look beautiful and classy well through the next decade," says Roll.
