Two Florida Lawsuits Filed Against ConAgra Foods, Inc. Regarding Tainted Peanut Butter

Two Florida women have sued ConAgra Foods, the manufacturer of Peter Pan and Great Value (Wal Mart brand) peanut butter, claiming that the peanut butter made them ill.

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWeb) April 2, 2007 -- Two lawsuits were filed in West Palm Beach, Florida against ConAgra Foods, Inc, the manufacturer of Peter Pan peanut butter and Great Value (Wal Mart brand) peanut butter. Brian Smith, a West Palm Beach attorney with Smith & Vanture, filed separate lawsuits in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. These cases arise out of the presence of salmonella bacteria in peanut butter consumed by the firm's clients and manufactured by ConAgra Foods, Inc. ConAgra is being sued for product defects, failure to warn consumers of the product's danger, and negligence. Each woman is seeking damages in excess of $15,000.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recently confirmed that salmonella bacteria was found in jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter. The peanut butter was recalled by Con Agra and the recall was recently expanded to include peanut butter topping used at Sonic Restaurants and Carvel Ice Cream stores.

Symptoms of foodborne illness caused by Salmonella include fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Individuals who have recently eaten peanut butter-containing products from these companies and who have experienced any of these symptoms should contact their doctor or health care provider immediately and report the illnesses to their state or local health authorities.
