Best Government Web Site Trends Detailed in New Report From the Web Marketing Association

New Web Marketing Association' Internet Standards Assessment Report Includes Historical Data Derived from a Decade of Hosting Internet Award Competition, WebAwards, and Provides Best Practices for Government Web Design

West Simsbury, CT (PRWeb) April 2, 2007 -- government industry learn to create more effective and engaging web sites.

"As the standard of excellence for web sites continues to increase, consumers (and WebAward judges) are increasingly picky about what they consider to be an effective web site," said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association, Inc. "Government web sites need to balance the appearance of fiscal responsibility with the goals of the Web project. The best Government Web sites do not appear to be created by committee."

The WebAwards competition judges government web sites on seven criteria that combined create award-winning web sites:

• Design
• Innovation
• Content
• Technology
• Interactivity
• Copywriting
• Ease of use

Government Web sites, including federal, state, and municipal agencies, generally met or outperformed the ISAR Index up to 2002, but have fallen below average for the past four years.

According to the ISAR study, copywriting is government web site's strong point, while they are at average in terms of interactivity and ease of use. They tend to have the lowest scores for design, innovation, content and use of technology.

The 2006 WebAward for Best Government Web site went to the National Library of Scotland for the National Library of Scotland's web site.

Other past winners include:
- 2005 U.S. Postal Service for Postage Rate Calculator
- 2004 Batiz.com, Inc. for Drive Clean
- 2003 TMP Worldwide for United States Naval Reserve
- 2002 Campbell-Ewald Advertising for Accelerate Your Life, NAVY

A complete list of past winners can be found at government.webaward.org.
