Palm Springs, CA (PRWEB) April 19, 2007 -- McCormack Baron Salazar and Desert AIDS Project will celebrate the Grand Opening of The Rick Weiss Apartments with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. The Grand Opening will culminate ceremonies which began with a dedication ceremony on April 13th naming the complex in honor of Rick Weiss, late partner of Greenburg Family Foundation Founder, Earl Greenburg.
The Rick Weiss Apartments is an 80-unit affordable housing community comprised of 48 studio and 32 one-bedroom apartments, each with individual kitchens and spacious bathrooms. Other site amenities include a pool, BBQ areas, community room, and patios. The development will provide permanent housing to individuals living with HIV or AIDS and earning less than 60% of the area median income. A special set aside of 28 units will target individuals with HIV/AIDS who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The complex is adjacent to the Desert AIDS Project Campus which will provide residents access to free social and medical services, such as an on-site laboratory and pharmacy, case management, vocational, nutritional, educational, legal and recreational activities.

Desert AIDS Project at the Greenburg-Peet Family Center is the organization where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive services to help manage HIV Disease. The D.A.P. offers primary medical care through its Wells Fargo HIV Health Center, and provides widespread education and prevention services for schools, civic organizations, businesses, churches and health organizations throughout the communities it serves. David Brinkman, Executive Director of Desert AIDS Project, stated, “Desert AIDS Project is very proud of the collaborative efforts of the partnership that created this development. It's incredibly exciting that we have directly affected one of the most disturbing issues in the Coachella Valley – a lack of affordable housing and resulting homelessness for people affected by HIV and AIDS.”
Financing for the $11,002,000 development was provided by California Debt Limit Allocation Committee, California Department of Housing and Community Development (Multi-Family Housing Program), California Housing Finance Agency, California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, City of Palm Springs (Community Redevelopment Agency), County of Riverside (Economic Development Agency) and Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco (Affordable Housing Program). Equity is provided by AIG SunAmerica Affordable Housing Partners, Inc.

Architectural design services were provided by the local firm of Interactive Design Corporation, Reuel Young, Principal. The General Contractor was AP Residential Southwest out of Phoenix and Construction Administration was provided by Logistics CM.
