Predating the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt by 500 years and Stonehenge by 1,000 years, the kidney shaped mound covers an area of over one acre, is surrounded by 97 kerbstones, some of which are richly decorated with megalithic art. Megalithic mounds such as Newgrange entered Irish mythology as sídhe or fairy mounds, with Newgrange as the mythological home of Oenghus, the god of love.
Also while in Ireland, tour members visit two important sites for spiritual pilgrimage: the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock and Mt. Croagh Patrick. Known for a miraculous occurrence, Knock has grown to the status of an internationally recognized Marian Shrine. And, since ancient times the Celtic people have regarded Mt.
