Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) representatives will accompany Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine as he visits India this month to promote expanded economic ties between India and Virginia. The FCEDA opened an office in Bangalore, India, in 2004 and was the first U.S. county with permanent representation in India to work with technology companies interested in expanding into the U.S. market.
The governor's visit to India will cap an April 15-28 trade mission that also includes Japan and Hong Kong.
The FCEDA will participate in an April 27 seminar "Expand in the USA: Invest in Virginia" at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. FCEDA Indian director Prasad Tagat will be on a panel that describes business opportunities in Virginia for Indian companies. A representative of Satyam Computer Services Ltd., a consulting and IT services company, will discuss how the company chose to locate operations in Fairfax County. Other Virginia agencies participating in the panel will be the Virginia Economic Development Partnership; Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc.; Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance; and Virginia Port Authority.
Two members of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority Commission are in the business delegation to India: Sudhakar Shenoy, chairman and CEO of Information Management Consultants Inc., and Michael Lewis, managing director of Liberty Capitol LLC. Other business people in the delegation include Shanta Patel, CEO of Fairfax County-based Sumsara Consulting Inc.
Fairfax County is home to more than 4,900 technology companies and more than 350 foreign-owned firms. Almost 20 Indian companies have operations in Fairfax County, including Satyam, information technology services company Goldstone Technologies, and telecommunications giant VSNL.
