Portland, OR (PRWeb) April 13, 2007 -- The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Web, today nominated COLOURlovers for the Best Community Website of 2007 & an Official Honoree for Best Social/Network Website. COLOURlovers was created and is run by Darius A Monsef of Portland, OR.

Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile Websites. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization that includes David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser.

"The Webby Awards honors the outstanding work that is setting the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "COLOURlovers' Nominee selection is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators."

Of the more than 8,000 entries submitted from over 60 countries and all 50 states, fewer than 15% were distinguished as an Official Honoree and an even smaller number received the accolade of being an Official Nominee.

"It is an amazing honor for COLOURlovers to be recognized as one of the best online communities, on the same level as multi-million dollar sites. Our membership is about 1/50th of other sites nominated in this category. This nomination recognizes the quality of our community and comes as a huge validation for a guy who hand coded the site two years ago by himself," said Darius A Monsef, creator and executive editor of COLOURlovers.

As a nominee for a Webby Award, COLOURlovers is also eligible to win a People's Voice Award. Voting is open to the public from April 10th to April 27th at http://peoplesvoice.webbyawards.com'>http://peoplesvoice.webbyawards.com.

Winners will be announced on May 1, 2007 and honored at The 11th Annual Webby Awards Gala in New York City on June 5th. The ceremony will be hosted by comedian and actor Rob Corddry, star of Fox's new sitcom "The Winner" and a former correspondent for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."

Founded in 1996, The Webby Awards is known worldwide for its famous five-word speeches.
