Sensing Opportunities: Growth in the ASEAN 3 Automotive Sensors Market

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Automotive & Transportation Practice, Asia Pacific at Frost & Sullivan will be holding an Analyst Briefing "ASEAN 3 Automotive OE Sensors Market" on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 11:30am - 12:30 pm SGT.

The ASEAN 3 (Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand) region is increasingly becoming a hub for export of vehicles, and joint venture companies of multinational companies' have a strong presence in this market. Automotive companies in the ASEAN 3 region are assembling vehicles from completely knocked-down or whole cars are imported as completely built-up and sensors are built-in components of these cars or the subsystems.

More mechatronic devices are being used in the cars as consumers' awareness about the advantages offered by these systems increase among the customers.

"Emission control norms and increased use of onboard electronic control units are expected to boost sales of sensors for use in automobiles manufactured in ASEAN 3," observes V. Bhanu Prakash, Industry Manager at Frost & Sullivan Automotive & Transportation Practice.

However, he adds that growth is dependent on a few key factors, including the government's initiative in introducing more stringent emission and safety norms, and investment in research and development in the region. It will also depend on whether the domestic market will grow to consume more sensors.

"The convergence of sensors is a trend in the ASEAN 3 automotive sensors markets. Any system, which can save costs and provide added functionality without the need for additional sensors is given priority," says Bhanu Prakash.

He adds that companies pioneering the development of innovative combination sensors, which can fulfill a variety of needs, will stand to gain further competitive advantage in the future.

Highlights of the briefing include growth opportunities, trends and challenges, strategic recommendations and application trends affecting the automotive sensors market.
