Micron Challenges College Students to a Camera Phone Photography and Video Contest

Boise, Idaho, United States

Micron Technology, Inc. (NYSE:MU), is challenging college students to discover the photography potential of today's camera phones. Micron is sponsoring a competition, dubbed the Micron Mobile Theater Contest, where participating students will capture the extraordinary, inspirational, and intriguing in single-frame shots and continuous video, using mobile phones designed with Micron memory and image sensors.

"We are encouraging these students to use their imagination and creativity to maximize the mobile imaging innovations designed into today's camera phones," said Bob Gove, vice president of Micron's imaging group. "As the camera phone imaging leader, we are advancing the picture quality of today's camera-equipped mobile phones. While the contest is designed to demonstrate the photographic and video capabilities of today's mobile phones, it also provides a unique perspective to how our technology impacts camera phone imaging."

Two schools are participating in the competition: Boise State University in Idaho and Drexel University in Pennsylvania. The participating schools were chosen based on their relationship with Micron's university outreach programs. Each school will field five teams of four students. Micron will provide each team with four phones that feature its imaging and memory technology, including a VGA, a 1.3-megapixel, a 2-megapixel and a 3-megapixel phone. Each team will be asked to capture one video clip and one still image with their phone.

Three guest judges will select the winning team, subjectively rating the submissions on creativity, uniqueness, execution, humor and impact of each video clip and still photo. The judging panel includes Mike McNamara, executive technology editor for Popular Photography & Imaging magazine; Rick Decker, a professional photographer; and a Micron imaging executive.

Micron is offering the winning team an all expense paid trip to Barcelona, Spain where they will show their winning entries in Micron's booth at the 3GSM World Congress, February 13-17, 2007. Additionally, each winning team member will be presented with a monetary prize of $1,250.
