Marlink, a world leader in communications via satellite, has announced that it is providing a combination of global maritime satellite communications to Valles Steamship Ltd. to meet the company's worldwide business requirements and support its crew morale and welfare program.
Marlink provides both Inmarsat and Iridium satellite communications along with e-mail and traffic accounting services to the Valles' fleet consisting of 7 tanker and 3 bulk carrier vessels. Valles also has three new build Aframax tankers on order.
Valles is equipping all of its vessels with Inmarsat Fleet F77 terminals using Marlink airtime and value added services to meet the ever-growing requirement for at-sea data communications. Marlink Fleet service enables Valles to conduct business operations in real-time with its fleet assets at sea.
Valles is also in the process of fitting all the vessels with Iridium satellite phones. The Iridium phones are used for office-to-ship and ship-to-office business calls as well as for crew calling using Marlink prepaid calling cards.
At the company's Vancouver, Canada, operations center, Valles has installed a Beam Remote Satellite Terminal (RTS100). This unit is interconnected to the company's networked voice over IP (VoIP) telephone system. When fully deployed, this network system will not only provide direct vessel access to Valles' Vancouver office, but also to its headquarters in Hong Kong and field operations in Mumbai, Shanghai, Taipei, and Tokyo.
"Valles Steamship realizes the importance of reliable and cost-efficient communications and is constantly looking for better ways to increase business efficiency; while at the same time, improving crewmember morale and welfare," said Captain Oscar G. Pinto, director of marine and safety for Valles Steamship. "As Valles adds new ships to increase the size and efficiency of its fleet and operations, Marlink communications products and services will continue to be an essential tool to help us fulfill our business strategy."
"Ship owners, captains, and crew members deserve an efficient, safe and cost-effective means for real-time communications with home and office while at sea," said Soren Einshoj, managing director of Marlink. "Marlink is the industry's leading 'one-stop-shop' for voice and data maritime communications along with complete service and support, giving ships the communications freedom to conduct ship's business, while offering sailors an essential means to improve morale and welfare at sea."
Marlink is a subsidiary of Telenor Satellite Services and is part of Telenor ASA of Norway, listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange (TEL) and NASDAQ (TELN).
