healthcare industry's pro bono "Safe Lifting Environment" injury
prevention campaign, today announced the launch of a comprehensive new
web portal designed to further assist hospitals and nursing homes in
their efforts to reduce costly and disruptive caregiver injuries.
The Liko-sponsored site "SafeLiftingPortal.com" is designed to function
as a clearinghouse for injury prevention information, presentation aids,
educational resources, and links to related web sites. With the advent
of legislation in several states aimed at reducing caregiver injuries,
information sharing has become a key priority among lift committees,
risk managers, safety directors, occupational health professionals, and
other interested stakeholders.
One of the main objectives of SafeLiftingPortal.com is to provide timely
information to the various healthcare constituencies involved in injury
prevention, ranging from managers and administrators to nurses,
caregivers, and ancillary groups such as legislators, risk management
firms, and healthcare insurance providers.
According to Brian Wright, Liko's Vice President of Marketing and
Education, "We have found that while many hospitals and nursing homes
have commissioned safety committees to spearhead injury prevention
programs within their facilities, often the members of these committees
must start from scratch by gathering basic information and developing
specialized solutions specific to their healthcare organizations. A
wealth of information already exists to assist them in their efforts,
and by providing a single, easy-to-use channel to access that
information we hope to advance an organization's progress through many
avenues such as providing a greater depth of caregiver solutions,
enhancing patient care outcomes, promoting and achieving buy-in, and
focusing innovative educational solutions for injury prevention
initiatives industry-wide."
Further, according to Wright, "Related audiences such as risk management
firms and insurance providers are seeking to control costs in parallel
with these institution-based safe lifting initiatives, thus they are
logical participants in the Portal as well."
A related newsletter, SafeLiftingNews.com, was commissioned in January
in response to requests from early adopters of the pro bono Safe Lifting
Environment injury prevention awareness campaign. Numerous healthcare
institutions have requested free "Safe Lifting Environment" Starter Kits
and are in the process of implementing the campaign in applications
ranging from single rooms to entire facilities. Other sections of the
Safe Lifting Portal cover topics such as deploying a program, achieving
buy-in, and calculating projected savings with an interactive
calculator.
