Hollywood and Hip Hop Took Centerstage at The 2006 Atlanta HipHop Film Festival Awards

Atlanta (PRWEB) May 7, 2006 -- Atlanta HipHop Film Festival celebrated the accomplishments of the filmmakers and HipHop legends, Sunday at 7 p.m., at the 2006 Atlanta HipHop Film Festival Awards. The Awards Show was hosted by Hot 107.9's Griff and co-hosted by Bow Legged Lou and Skye.

Following the screening, festival supporters and fans caught a glimpse of Hollywood during the star-studded Purple Carpet Affair. Participants in the procession represented HipHop's Royalty; Young Hollywood; emerging artists, industry tastemakers and pillars in the community. Hip-Hop icons in attendance were Christopher "Play" Martin, Bowlegged Lou, Davey D, Toni Blackmon, Professor Griff, Too Short and DJ Wiz. Delegates from Young Hollywood included Meagan Good, Darrin Henson, Columbus Short, Laz Alonso, Brian White, and Albert Daniels. The notable and rising Hip-Hop artists included Killer Mike, Raz B (formerly of B2K), Freddie P (formerly of Da Band), The Brittenum Twins, Baby D, DJ Jelly, DJ Benny Demus, Final Draft, Janelle Monae, Kuntajus, Scar, Block Entertainment, Baby Stone, BHI, K-Rab, Lady J, The Castle Boyz, M.O.E. Betta, Devin Johnson, Eddie "Young Dirty" Long, Most Hi Fi, the Platinum Brothers, the Southwest Click, Wonder, and Willie Joe. Also present were Roger Bobb (Tyler Perry Production Company), Tricky Stewart, Vernon Cassius Weathersby,("U Got Served" producer) and Antonio Reid Jr., all noted experts in film and music. Community figures, Minister Server and the Miss Black Georgia USA Court, Bessie Winn (Miss Black USA, Crystal Jones and Kristen Bowens were also in attendance.

Presenters at this year's Awards Show were Meagan Good, Darrin Henson, Brian White, Dwayne Boyd, Too Short, Professor Griff, Baby D, DJ Jelly, Freddie P, Janelle Monae, Scar, Kuntajus, M.O.E. Betta, Raz B, Roger Bobb, DJ Wiz, Christopher "Play" Martin and the Miss Black Georgia USA Court.

The 2006 Atlanta HipHop Film Festival Award Winners are as follows:

Best Documentary- "Bullets in the Hood," directed by Terrence Fisher and Daniel Howard
Best Short Film- "The Sun Will Rise," directed by Byron Horne
Best Feature- "The Beat," written, directed and produced by Brandon Sonnier
Best Music Video- "6 In The Morning," directed by Christopher "Play" Martin
Audience Choice- "Finally Saying What I Really Mean," directed by Monique Woods
Best Actress- Taquoia Street, "Wanna Be"
Best Actor- Jermaine Williams, "The Beat"

2006 Atlanta HipHop Film Festival Honorees are:

Jack "The Rapper" Award (formerly named The HipHop Pioneer Award)- Ice T
Triple Threat Award- Lauryn Hill
Humanitarian Award- LL Cool J
Ultimate Filmmaker Award- F. Gary Gray
Revolutionary Spirit Award- Dead Prez
Best Throwback Award- "Beat Street," directed by Stan Lathan
Best Futuristic Award- "You Got Served," directed by Chris Stokes

Highlights of the evening included a performance by Killer Mike, an LL Cool J tribute performed by The Castle Boyz, a Lauryn Hill tribute performed by Maya and Ty, the choreographed routines by IMD Entertainment and a surprise presentation of an apprenticeship from Tyler Perry Company, presented by Roger Bobb, which was awarded to the production team of "The Sun Will Rise" for winning Best Short Film.
