PokerListings.com Donates $30,000 To International Aid Organizations In First Step Initiative

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 6, 2006 - In a drive to develop awareness and inspire acts of charity among people in the world, PokerListings.com (http://www.pokerlistings.com/charity), the foremost Internet poker guide, recently donated a total of $30,000 to three internationally renowned non-profit development organizations: UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and Save the Children.

"Having achieved remarkable success in a very short period of time, PokerListings.com felt compelled to launch a charitable branch aimed at raising awareness for organizations dedicated to creating lasting health, justice, peace, and prosperity throughout the world," said Jenny Säfström, community and public relations coordinator at PokerListings.com.

PokerListings.com's initial series of charitable contributions benefits three humanitarian aid organizations working towards alleviating child poverty and lowering youth mortality rates in impoverished countries.

"This is only the beginning of what we hope will be a long term project dedicated to fostering hope among those less fortunate, and inspiring similar acts among our business partners and readers as well as with all communities across the world, whether they are connected to the poker industry or not," Ms. Säfström continued.

"And what better way to start than by assisting in the development of healthy and happy children, and securing a safe, peaceful, and just environment in which they can flourish?"

One of the most widely recognized international aid organizations in the world, UNICEF works to expand the horizons of young children by assisting them in overcoming the obstacles of poverty, violence, disease, and discrimination. Its main priorities include promoting the education of young girls, providing immunization for every child, countering the threat of HIV/AIDS, and ensuring child protection and early childhood care.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that provides emergency and basic medical assistance to impoverished and war torn communities in over 70 countries around the world. MSF aims to alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health, and to restore and ensure respect for human beings and their fundamental human rights by raising awareness of the regions in which the organization works.

Save the Children is an independent organization dedicated to creating real and lasting change for children in need around the world. Through the utilization of a unique self-help approach in their relief work, Save the Children seeks to create economic opportunities and to provide education for children, works against the spread of HIV/AIDS, fights hunger and malnutrition, and saves newborn lives.

"Through our new and extensive charity program, we are supporting non-profit organizations like UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and Save the Children in an effort to fulfill our responsibility as a valued and equal member of society, and to contribute to the evolution of a safe, just, and livable world," said Staffan Rydin, editor in chief of PokerListings.com.

"Our goal is to inspire others to act on their compassion by making a difference, and to increase poker's international reputation as a sport that is dedicated to building a sustainable world."
