racelab Brings People Together to Celebrate Fitnesss through Family-Friendly Amigo 10K Run, 5K Run/Family Fun Run/Walk

(PRWEB) May 5, 2006 -- Across all cultures and in all countries, parents have the same concerns -- raising happy, healthy children. That's why SOMA Kids and racelab have joined together to present the Amigo 10K, a family-friendly event that crosses cultures and finish lines in an effort to help all families become happier and healthier.

The Amigo 10K features a 10K run, 5K race & family walk and Kid's Dash. "We really wanted this event to have a variety of distances so all family members can participate," said Bettina Warnholtz, racelab head coach and one of the organizers of the event. "After the run we have music, food and fun for all ages," she continued. "We have also priced the event to make it affordable for entire families to run or walk together."

Profits from the event will benefit SOMA Kids, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the promotion of physical activity and healthy nutrition among our youth. Racelab's partnership with SOMA Kids started last year when they produced the first-annual Stampede at the Zoo (scheduled for May 21 this year) -- a kids-only race through the Phoenix Zoo. With racelab's extensive children's training program and SOMA's commitment to nutrition education and to fighting childhood obesity, the benefits of a partnership were obvious.

The Amigo 10K is designed to address these health issues with people of all ages and helps show that all parents -- regardless of their cultural heritage -- want their children to be in good physical shape. "Obesity is a serious concern among all families," said Warnholtz. "We hope that by presenting events that invite everyone to participate we can do our part to help all people get healthy!"

The Amigo 10K and 5K will be timed by Arizona RunningEvents Company. Awards will be provided to the top three male and female finishers in 5-year age groups in both races. All recipients will receive a race t-shirt.

On May 14, the Amigo 10K starts at the Tempe Town Lake. The 10K begins at 7:30 a.m.; the 5K at 7:35 a.m. The kids' dash will start at 7:25. Registration is available online at Active.com or by mail at www.racelab.com. Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Registration is $25. Families who register may sign up an entire family (2 or more) for only $45. Visit racelab.com for further details.
