(PRWEB) May 5, 2006 -- There is going to be a stampede at the zoo. No the animals are not breaking out . . . it will be the pitter patter of little feet as hundreds of kids take on racelab's kids-only event, Sunday, May 21, beginning at 7:00 a.m.
Benefiting SOMA Kids, racelab Jr.'s 2nd Annual Stampede at the Zoo is a great family-friendly event that features a variety of race distances for children walking age to 12 years of age. Races include the Coyote Run (1.2 miles), Cheetah Race (.7 miles), Rhino Charge (.4 miles) and Penguin Dash (150 yards).
"Of course we want parents to come and enjoy the event with their children, but we encourage the children to try to do the events on their own," said Bettina Warnholtz, race director and racelab director of coaching. "Parents can jog along with their toddlers, but we hope they will let their little ones cross the finish line alone. This is their child's opportunity to shine!"
All children who participate will be given a race number and those doing the 1.2-mile Coyote Run will also receive an "official" time for the race. "The main focus of these events is on fun and exercise! The timing allows children to see how much faster they get from year to year," continued Warnholtz.
Every finisher will receive a medal and a t-shirt as well as a healthy breakfast. "We really want the kids to be the stars so we give them all the amenities their parents usually get at the big races," said Warnholtz. In addition, each runner and two other family members will receive FREE zoo admission with paid race entry which they can use after the race.
Many races in the valley have kids' dashes as part of their event, but the Stampede at the Zoo is the only event that is just for kids! "Bring the whole family and enjoy a beautiful, fitness-filled day together at the zoo," said Warnholtz. "You'll be glad you did."
The Stampede at the Zoo takes place Sunday, May 21 at the Phoenix Zoo located off the Galvin Parkway in Phoenix. Registration includes zoo admission for the registrant and two other family members. The first race begins at 7:10 a.m. Registration is $30.00 per person with discounts available for more than one family member. Further details may be found at www.racelab.com .
