Classroom Reform Promotes Productivity: Teacher Reforms Classrooms Using Modern Business Management Techniques - With Amazing Results

Covington, WA (PRWEB) May 25, 2006 -- Several years ago, Sandy LaBelle was on the verge of leaving teaching, the profession she loved, due to "personal professional crisis" (otherwise known as "burnout"). "Teaching had me so stressed out that my health was declining. I was suffering from a number of stress-related ailments including insomnia and acid reflex, but when my doctor insisted that I wear a heart monitor, I realized I needed to either do things differently in the classroom or find another profession." Sandy decided she needed to investigate a different perspective to her traditional classroom management approach and she turned to the business community. "I took classes like: How to dealing with non-productive or difficult workers, How to meet multiple deadlines, How to manage paperwork, etc. I studied Dr. Deming's ideas on quality management. It was a small stretch to modify the business ideas to fit the classroom." says LaBelle. She then implemented these ideas in her classroom and continually refined them until the techniques worked perfectly.

"The results were absolutely amazing! Not only was I less fatigued, but there was a dramatic drop in behavior problems, and students were genuinely more happy and cooperative." In fact, Sandy's new approach was so effective that administrators encouraged her to share her ideas with fellow teachers.

Mrs. LaBelle is now nationally recognized for her innovative reforms in classroom management and is the author of two books on classroom management. "When I first began to share my ideas with my colleagues, I thought I was the only teacher suffering from significant job stress and fatigue. As I traveled the nation lecturing I found I was not alone. These problems are far more wide-spread than one would image. It's just not the sort of thing we teachers talk about in the teachers lounge."

Even after over 100 presentations, LaBelle still finds the journey very rewarding. "The feedback I get is sometimes overwhelming", she says. "I get e-mails that reach out and touch my heart."

Thank you, I'm sleeping at night.

I went home crying every night,
then I read your book and began to feel good again!

I was a worm and everyone was stepping on me,
now I fly with the butterflies because of your book!

Sandy LaBelle is the kind of teacher I wish I would have had,
and I hope she is the kind of teacher my grandchildren will have!
Sandy's specific techniques result in dramatic reductions in behavior problems, improvements in work quality with less stress and fatigue for teachers and administrators.
