Intervoice Wins T-Com Contract For Premium Rate Service Enhancements

Dallas, United States

Move Supports Deutsche Telekom's Drive to Higher Value Services, Increases Consumer Protection and Allows Content Service Providers to Raise Efficiencies Intervoice, Inc. (Nasdaq:INTV), a world leader in converged voice and data solutions, has completed the latest phase of a contract with T-Com, the broadband and fixed-line business unit of Deutsche Telekom AG (DTAG), to supply software enhancements to the German public network operator's premium rate call platform (Service 0900).

The voice XML platform, one of the largest in Europe, is owned and operated by DTAG and benefits all three constituents in premium rate calls:

-- callers are protected from unwittingly incurring premium rate charges and benefit from flexible tariff changes within a single call - for example, for out-of-hours emergency support
charged at a premium rate;

-- the service providers that create content for premium rate services avoid the capital expenditure necessary for an IVR system to host their services;

-- and the network operator, T-Com, gains the flexibility to drive to higher value services that can be tested and live with very short notice.

The entire T-Com solution for premium rate services is based on Intervoice's Service Delivery Platform technology. The platform can support up to 20,000 simultaneous services, each of which can be individually customised by T-Com. The solution provides detailed transaction records for all of these services, facilitating billing of end user calls and allowing the operator to charge service providers depending on their use of network and platform resources.

Using Intervoice, T-Com has also created a flexible tariffing capability for premium rate services - the ability to gain the caller's consent to change the tariff charged during a call. Flexible tariffing was mandated by the German telecommunications regulator on premium rate calls in 2003 to provide greater protection for consumers. It also ensures more efficient use of resources for T-Com's service provider customers and greater visibility of service margins.
