California Girl Comes Away with Kilos - Of Premium Tea

San Clemente, CA (PRWEB) May 19, 2006 -- Teashop owners and tea connoisseurs from all over the country and around the world gathered last month in Las Vegas, NV to participate in the first ever Tea Auction held on U.S. soil. Featuring one-of-a-kind premium teas from the Nilgiri region of India, 42 different teas from 14 unique Nilgiri estates were auctioned off in 5 and 10 kilogram lots to the top bidders.

In attendance was local tea-salon owner, premier certified blender and maverick-about-town Desiree Nelson. Battling it out with thousands of buyers both big and small, including Bath & Body Works, Whole Foods Market, Hyatt Hotels and Trader Joe's, Desiree held her own to come away with 15 kilos total. 10 kilos of "Organic Green Bouquet" from the Organic Estate of Korakundah, India and 5 kilos of "Mellow Amber" from the Havukal Estate, India. Both lots will be available for sale in-store and online at lavenderloungetea.com as of May 1, 2006 and will be used in original 2006 Spring blends available until sold out.

Desiree Nelson, tea blender and founder of Lavender Lounge Tea Company located in historic downtown San Clemente, CA, is one of the few at the forefront of the rapidly expanding industry of custom tea blending and specialty tea sales and distribution. Specialty tea sales will represent the fastest growing segment of the tea industry over the next decade with tea sales rising to more than $4 billion a year. Popularity of this humble drink continues to increase, as does the demand for unique, specially-blended niche teas. Skilled, educated tea blenders are finding recognition of their craft and knowledge akin to the respect and attention garnered by a well-trained sommelier.

Whether hand blending small batches of teas at her San Clemente Tea Company, consulting for progressive restaurateurs, or creating private blends for businesses from hotels to day spas to cultural centers, Desiree delights in sharing one of the greatest pleasures of her life-her passion for tea.
