Online Fundraising Puts Students and Teachers Back in the Classroom

Ion Development recently invited a local Montessori school to participate in its first online fund-raising event. Natural Learning Montessori Academy ("NLMA"), a private Montessori school located in Shawnee Hills, Ohio, is no stranger to fundraising. Each year NLMA holds a number of fundraising programs and events, most of which rely heavily on student, parent and teacher participation.

"We wanted to provide the school with a fundraising opportunity that required minimum participation by the school administration and didn't involve the students and teachers," explained Ion Development's co-founder, Maria Spencer. In fact, the school's participation in the online sales event, which began on May 1st and continues through May 31st, was limited to distributing flyers to students, hanging posters, and including information about the event in its newsletters and on its website. In return, the school will receive a portion of the profits on purchases from www.ion-development.com during the month of May using a special promotion code.

While most school fundraising events are limited in geographic scope, friends and family throughout the United States can participate in Ion Development's fundraising events. "The first sale of NLMA's campaign came from Connecticut. It's unlikely that the school could have tapped those funds with its usual local or on-site events," Ms. Spencer asserted.

Although Ion Development's goal is to promote science and math studies, the company does not restrict the use of the funds raised through its online sales events. "Our hope is that they will be used for activities and materials consistent with our philosophy of promoting science and math education. For example, we would love to hear that funds we helped to raise were used to sponsor a team participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad."
