The American College Welcomes Linda J. Melson to The College's Regional
Advancement Department

Bryn Mawr, PA (PRWEB) May 15, 2006 -- May Linda J. Melson, LUTCF, CLU®,
has joined The American College's Advancement Division as Director of
Major Gifts. In this position, Melson will identify, cultivate, and
solicit prospects for large charitable gifts to The College. She is also
responsible for being the public face of the institution in Texas and
the mid-continental South. "It gives me and everyone here at The
American College great pleasure to have such an accomplished and
dedicated individual as part of our team," said Larry Barton, Ph.D.,
President and Chief Executive Officer of the institution.

Melson will coordinate special events in her region and will develop new
avenues of communication between alumni and The College. She will
prepare and implement special events with the help of local volunteers
and will also facilitate local participation in national events
sponsored by The American College.

Melson began her career in banking but within a short period of time
became the owner of a property and casualty insurance business that she
managed successfully for 22 years. The American College will benefit
from Melson's financial services work experience as well as her
volunteer and board experience.

Her numerous leadership roles include: President of the Petroplex
Chapter of American Business Women's Association (she received their
Woman of the Year Award in 1990); Board Member of The Alzheimer's
Association's local association board in Midland, Texas; Member of the
Germania Insurance Company's Agent's Advisory Committee (she was
Germania Life's Agent of the Year four years in a row); first woman
President of The Texas Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors;
Board Member of the Better Business Bureau of the Permian Basin; and
Board Member of the Adult Protective Services Advisory Board.

In addition, Melson has served on the advisory Board for the LUTC
educational program for The American College. She was a Charter Board
Member who served in an advisory capacity, providing a field insurance
agent's perspective to The College. Her service helped The College
develop both curriculum and marketing strategies. Melson has also served
as Regional Director for The College for Texas since 1997, encouraging
professionals in 37 different cities to enroll in American College
courses.

Melson received her LUTCF designation from The American College in 1990
and her Chartered Life Underwriter™ (CLU®) designation in 1996. The
College awarded her the Bronze Eagle Award and the Ernie Cragg Award in
recognition of her outstanding service and achievement to the
institution.

While Melson retired from her insurance business in May 2004, she
continues to service her life, annuity, and investment clientele. In
addition she assists her husband who works under the direction of
attorneys in financial/Medicaid planning.
