Erie Plastics will transfer its Massachusetts-based assets and production to its Corry, Pa., headquarters by the end of June 2006. Originally opened in 1996 to supply The Gillette Company, Erie Plastics' Westborough plant evolved into a closure-production facility handling overflow. The need for the plant declined when (in 2001) Erie Plastics relocated its headquarters, nearly tripling operating space (from 156,000 to 465,000 square feet).
"We deeply regret the closing of Erie Plastics' Massachusetts plant. Although we attempted to expand business in New England, most of our opportunities have occurred in the Midwest," said P. C. Hoop Roche, Chairman and CEO of Erie Plastics. "The plant workforce had an awesome team spirit, and they are very technically competent. We are confident that they will be reemployed quickly, and we will miss working with each of them!"
Optimizing operations to increase global competitiveness and better service customers, Erie Plastics plans to mothball its 77,000-square-foot Massachusetts facility, keeping limited assets in place as it seeks to sublet the plant.
Founded in 1960, Erie Plastics is a Top 100 injection molder in the U.S. specializing in designing and developing plastic packaging components for the food and beverage, personal care, consumer, pharmaceutical and household cleaner/detergent markets.
A market leader in combining 128-cavity molds with valve-gate, hot-runner systems, the company produces more than 10 billion parts annually.
