Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of high-performance network applications for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, has announced that it has received the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy Award for its portfolio of Internet protocol (IP) communications infrastructure equipment.
The award recognizes Tekelec for demonstrating the most insight into customer needs and delivering outstanding technology innovation and leadership across its next-generation products while providing an efficient, cost-effective path from today's to IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) networks and applications.
Frost & Sullivan specifically praises the Tekelec 6000 VoIP (voice over IP) Application Server for supporting a broad range of next-generation applications and services as well as innovative features such as integrated session border controller functionality and one-to-one redundancy for carrier-grade reliability and uptime. These features enable service providers of all sizes to reduce costs and deliver revenue-building services for both VoIP and today's subscribers while implementing a full IMS platform.
"Tekelec has employed best practices that have enabled it to maintain product line strategy in the application and media server markets, create credibility in the marketplace and continue to influence the direction of the industry," said Shirley Hunt, research analyst, Frost & Sullivan. "Operators can rely on Tekelec to provide high-quality, user-friendly products like the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server and continued innovation into the future to provide new revenue opportunities in the IMS world."
The session initiation protocol (SIP)-based Tekelec 6000 is a key element of Tekelec's portfolio of "IMS-Ready" products and solutions that enable operators to deploy next-generation services such as fixed mobile convergence, enhanced VoIP services, and mobile and local hosted services for business and residential markets, while leveraging today's infrastructure. Its IP multimedia service control (ISC) interface and SIP profiling capabilities make Tekelec 6000 one of the first feature-rich VoIP application servers to support IMS networks.
More than 130 operators around the globe have deployed the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server, including NTT Comware, Primus Canada, Telekenex, Cinergy, Frontier, VoiceNet, M5, Nevada Tel, One Connect, Rural Telecoms and Airband-Go-Comm. Tekelec's installed base of Tekelec 6000 subscribers grew 90 percent in 2005 based on the market success of these and other customers.
"Tekelec's market leadership and long-standing expertise in supporting feature-rich hosted VoIP services for our subscribers have contributed significantly to Cinergy's long-term success," said Bob Hegwood, senior director, Network Operations and Engineering at Cinergy Communications, which first deployed the Tekelec 6000 in 2004. "The Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server enables us to generate revenues from VoIP services today and supports our evolution to next-generation IMS-based networks and services when we need them."
Tekelec 6000 provides a wide range of feature-rich services, including unified messaging, softphone with multimedia capabilities, conferencing, find-me and intelligent Web portal and voice mail capabilities. It also includes an extensive application set for large and medium business users, including call center, auto attendant and PC-based business attendant services.
