HIV/AIDS Volunteer Program in Africa Launched by Cosmic Volunteers

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 25, 2006 -- Cosmic Volunteers (http://www.cosmicvolunteers.org) announces the launch of a new HIV/AIDS Volunteer Program in Africa for international travelers.
The volunteer program takes place in Ghana in West Africa and Kenya in East Africa. The volunteer program offers a hands-on way for volunteers to help those directly affected by HIV/AIDS.

This 1-12 week program is available year-round and features placements with some of the leading HIV/AIDS organizations in Africa. Volunteer locations include the capitol cities Accra and Nairobi and rural areas such as Cape Coast and the Volta Region.

Volunteers do not need any previous experience in the HIV/AIDS field. All volunteers receive training on HIV/AIDS care and prevention.

Volunteer work focuses on patient care and support, prevention work, and organizational support.

Volunteer duties include:

o One-to-one visiting and support
o Home support and hospice care
o Educational materials distribution
o Community Outreach
o Childcare
o Clerical work
o Staffing fundraising events
o Preparation of brochures/ newsletters

According to Scott Burke, Cosmic Volunteers' founder and director, "Our HIV/AIDS Volunteer Program in Africa is one of our most important programs. The families affected by HIV/AIDS and the larger community welcome our volunteers into their lives. The volunteers themselves experience personal growth and satisfaction through the program, along with a deeper appreciation for African culture."

Volunteers' live with local host families who provide volunteers with a private room, all meals, and inclusion in family activities. Living with a local family is a unique opportunity to gain real insights into the culture and people of Africa.

The cost of the program ranges from $775 for 1 week to $1,776 for 12 weeks. The program fee includes pretrip materials, visa assistance, orientation program, airport pickup, housing, all meals, guidance with extra sightseeing, and full support throughout the volunteer's entire program. The program fee does not include airfare to Africa or visa fees.

The HIV/AIDS Volunteer Program in Africa program complements Cosmic Volunteers' other volunteer programs in Ghana and Kenya:

o Teaching English
o Healthcare
o Orphanages
o Community Development
o Conservation
o Veterinary Medicine
