(PRWEB) April 24, 2006 -- FishingBooksAndVideos.com, a New York-based internet retailer of outdoors books and related merchandise, announced that they now offer full line of books published by Collector Grade Publications.
The announcement is in line with their latest attempts to reduce prices through dealing directly with publishers. Smaller booksellers normally rely on one or more large distributors rather than direct contact with publishers because of inability to meet minimum order requirements and complexity of maintaining multiple accounts and paying multiple invoices.
Konstantin Krylov, the owner of FishingBooksAndVideos.com, said that he is confident the move will give his company an edge over the competition. "We will be able to acquire merchandise when distributors are out of stock, and without distributor's markup", he says. In case with Ontario-based Collector Grade, he also cites ability to restock quicker because of geographic proxomity. The company says it will be able to carry every title from this publisher at all times, while maintaining lower inventory levels. Retailers often face the problem of unsold inventory when predicting customers' buying patterns accurately is difficult.
While this approach will help FishingBooksAndVideos.com lower their cost of merchandise, in many cases it still will be higher than what online giant Amazon.com pays. Due to it's huge market share, Amazon.com demands the same discount from publishers that wholesale distributors receive. While this certainly is a disadvantage for independent booksellers, Mr. Krylov also sees it as opportunity, since some publishers choose not to deal with Amazon.com for this reason. This leaves market open for competitors.
While most competitors rely on inventory management software packages taylored for booksellers, FishingBooksAndVideos.com maintains it's own proprietary software. This will allow them manage complexity of maintaining accounts with a large number of small publishers. Dealing directly with publishers requires a number of features that are normally not offered by inventory management systems and have to be custom-coded.
FishingBooksAndVideos.com previously announced similar deals with a few other publishers, including Wet Dog Publications, also a publisher of gun books.
Collector Grade is one of the world's largest publishers of quality gun books. It was founded in 1979 and currently has 33 titles in print. Two new titles were printed within last few months. FishingBooksAndVideos.com was launched in 2003 as a niche retailer of books and videos for fishermen and hunters.
