Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) April 12, 2006 -- AMI Electronics (AMIE), a division of Artificial Muscle Inc., announced today the availability of its new family of Thunder DC to DC converters. This initiative marks the first time customers, other than customers of Artificial Muscle's electroactive polymer (EPAM) products, can purchase their well-respected high-voltage electronics components separately. AMIE's Thunder family of high-voltage 1.5W DC to DC converters are available with input voltages 5, 12, or 24 volts and output voltages of 500-5000 volts. Details of the new product family can be seen at http://www.amielectronics.com
The Thunder DC to DC Converter Product Family
AMIE's Thunder family of low-power, high-voltage low-power DC to DC converters offer proportional, regulated, isolated high voltage low power output, encapsulated in high thermal conductivity epoxy resin for use in harsh environmental environments. These single output devices are available in a variety of input and output voltages ranging from 5,12, or 24VDC inputs up to 5000VDC outputs at 1.5W. AMI Electronics will also offer custom designs for high volume applications.
"Thunder's unique combination of rich features/low-cost makes it a compelling alternative to existing DC to DC converters," said Tim Coogan, General Manager of AMI Electronics. "As well-funded research projects have evolved into value-conscious commercial programs, AMI Electronics fills a need for compact, reliable, cost-effective high-voltage low-power DC to DC converters for applications from electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM), to piezo devices to analytical imaging and instrumentation and more. By offering our high-voltage electronics to the broader market we are responding to a growing demand for reliable, high-voltage components for today's increasingly sophisticated electronics."
A division of Artificial Muscle, Inc., AMI Electronics has provided high-voltage products to a broad spectrum of aerospace, automotive, medical, consumer electronics, and other Fortune 500 companies and international academic and research institutions since 2004. AMIEs corporate heritage traces itself back to a number of DARPA projects in the early 1990's. This new initiative marks the first time customers, other than customers of Artificial Muscle's Electroactive Polymer products, can purchase AMIs well-respected, high-voltage electronic components separately. AMI Electronics Thunder family is an example of leveraged R&D that capitalizes on the investments Artificial Muscle has made to bring the first high-volume Universal Muscle ActuatorTM (UMATM) to market.
AMI Electronics Division is located in Menlo Park, California. The division can be reached at (650) 331-2890. Details of the division and the Thunder DC to DC converter product line can be seen at the AMI Electronics website, http://www.amielectronics.com
About AMI Electronics
AMI Electronics is a division of Artificial Muscle Inc. (AMI), a Silicon Valley-based high-technology company that designs and manufactures actuator and sensing components based on a revolutionary technology platform called electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM). The technology was originally developed at SRI International, which subsequently founded AMI to exclusively commercialize artificial muscle technology. AMI became an independent company in early 2004 with venture fund financing from ARCH Venture Partners, NGEN Partners, and Vanguard Ventures.
Artificial Muscle, EPAM, Universal Muscle Actuator, UMA and Thunder are trademarks of Artificial Muscle Inc.
